The arrival of the new year marks a symbolic time for fresh starts. Many of us take it as an opportunity to set goals, contemplate decisions, and renew commitments. It's special because of the revitalized sense of hope it brings.
Before you make your New Year's resolutions for 2007, I'd like to share some thoughts about how it's never too late to start living a rich life.
The Live Rich Factor
Most people believe that if they just had more money, the things that make them unhappy would disappear and their lives would be better. The truth is that your life can be better without more money. It can be better today, but you need to make some decisions and take some actions.
You don't need me to tell you what will make you happy -- only you know that truth.
I believe each of us has the power to discover our purpose and become joyful in the process of journeying toward that purpose. It's not easy, however. Nothing important and meaningful ever is.
What you need to do is create what I call the 'Live Rich Factor' in your life. I call it this because those who find the purpose that leads them to joy are truly the luckiest people in the world, because they're living richly.
There are five basic principles involved in creating your Live Rich Factor:
Principle 1: Give Yourself a Break
We all tell ourselves the story of the one that got away. You can't move forward if you spend time focusing on what you shoulda-woulda-coulda done in 2006 or before. It's over, and its time to move on. The faste"
I screw up! My "Beautiful" template is gone now. I have to wait until I get home today to fix it.
Well ... I kinda like this BLANK CLEAN look too :)
baka baka baka
EventhoughI've been on Lazy & Busy mode back and forth lately. I finally decide to take some time to look into a new blogging tool. I have tried/used Greymatter, blogger, b2 (and Wordpress), and Movable type for my blog. So far, I have to say I love and hate all of them.
I love blogger because blogger keep back up of all my entries after uploading. So if I lose anything on my host (atlnetworks) or move to another host, I can always rebuild all my entries along with saved template in a few minutes. Greymatter is a history. Movable type is awesome but I have a hard time understanding it's template. b2 was used for evil housewife for a while but I only played with Wordpress for a few days (Pop's blog). PMachine is new to me and I would like to try it.
What do I want? The functionality or the look? After going through this Matrix, I still can't decide.
Let it snow! Let it snow!

Knee - Cold
Health Report:
My stupid knee does not improve. It's been 5 weeks now. I don't want to complain anymore because Pop yelled at me. He always thinks I over react about my health. I don't think it's right to treat me like that because I don't have to "FAKE" being "SICK" to get his attention. If I'm "SICK", I'll say "I'm SICK". I never try to hide to be cool like him! (He always trying to get better by himself. NEVER go see a doctor) I don't know what to do with this handicap knee. I walk like a druken ape and it hurts so bad getting up from bed in the morning (T_T)
Weather Report:
Gosh it's cold! I want to stay up and do some work on my computer but I think I'll opt to take a hot bath and snuggle in bed instead. We're getting some heavy snow tomorrow, thanks god it's weekend.
Jan 21 TonightMainly clear. Cold. Low 12F. Winds light and variable.
Jan 22 TomorrowSnow during the morning will become heavy at times during the afternoon. Cold. High 28F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 80%. 6 to 10 inches of snow expected.
Jan 22 Tomorrow nightWindy. Snow ending in the evening followed by a few snow showers
overnight. Low 17F. Winds N at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow

Working from home is nice. I don't have to deal with crazy drivers on the road but deal with a crazy husband instead (of which, I can handle pretty well). For the Inauguration (today), my supervisor allowed us to telework Wednesday and Thursday. I was playing tech support with Jenny on Wednesday and didn't get much done. Today, I have enough but still think that I could have done more. Oh well...it's a technical difficulty. I couldn't download some files from work mail server. Not my fault :(
Friday, I'm going back into the office. It's going to be crazy since I already have lots of emails and taskers waiting. Good! Busy day goes fast. I love it :)
PS. 3 Feb 2005, applying for a permanent resident card! What a bad timing since I'm about to fly out to Thailand! Well, hope everythig is going smoothly as plan, no surprises :)
----------------------
I got the x-ray result back. There's fluid in my knee (damn those christmas presents made me sit on my knee on hardwood floor for two weeks!) I will take anti-imflamatory medicine as prescribed last week (ADVIL). In a week if the pain won't go away, then I am referered to another doctor.
I shouldn't have gone crrraaazy with the DDR!
And on a side Note:
1.) Rogi said PMachine-Pro is now *FREE*!
2.) I start the 2nd round of LoCarb Diet Phase I today!
Mom emailed me with a list of things she want me to bring to her including vitamins and adult diapers for grandma. She said the adult diaper (DEPEND) costs around $1.50 to $2.00 each (a pair) in Bangkok.
I went up to amazon.com and found good deals on DEPEND (29% off!) Well, I went a little crazy and purchased about 200 pairs :) Now! She can wear it all year round until my next visit! Grandma is only at her late 70s but because of the recent stroke which led to a 24 hours brain surgery resulting her brain to age quite rapidly
Ok, let's move on to next purchase at vitacost.com. I stocked up tons of brains support fomulas and other supplements for her. They should last for a year or so. I also added some lowcarb pasta and baking mix to the same shopping cart since shipping fee is only $4.95 flat.
I'm heading back to SOUTHBEACH Phase II next week :D Yeah, forget about Phase I - Induction. It was 1.5 weeks of loneliness and pain. I couldn't believe I (kind of) succesfully went through it.
Damn! I love to shop. I can buy anything... ANYTHING! Give me a list and I'll get you a good deal in 10 seconds! ... maybe a couple of hours :)
PS. I downloaded Stepmania to my xbox today. Good time!

Pop woke up late so we missed the 9:30AM appointment at Potomac Family Practice by 10 minutes. No biggie, I always have to wait a long time regardless. Well, Dr. Lee saw me today. He's Pop's friend and grandma's doctor. Pop usually sees him with grandma once a month. Dr. Lee couldn't find anything wrong with my knee and probably think I have hypercondriac. He sent me off to get an x-ray done at Countryside Imaging and MRI center anyway.
I waited an hour to get to the x-ray room because I didn't make an appointment. We got out and went for a carry-out lunch at Countryside Cafe & Pizzeria (Lasagna, veal parmigiana, salad, veggie soup, french onion soup and garlic breads) While waiting for our order, we went to CVS next door to pick up some leftover 90% OFF After Christmas Sales and Advil (as doctor Lee directed). We went home to eat, then go back out again to Valvoline for an oil change (my car). While waiting for the service, we ran off (with Pop's car) to a bank for check deposit.
Well, that's pretty much it! I keep my finger crossed, hoping there's nothing funny showing up on the x-ray.

Dance Dance Revolution :)
I took a day off tomorrow to go have my knee cheked up. This is going to be my 1st doctor visit of this year, in fact, it's the 1st doctor visit in two years!
I don't get sick too often and I believe in NyQuil, Telenol, Icy-Hot and other over the counter medicines. Well, they work for me! Eventhough I'm paying over 200 dollars/month for our health insurance, we both only visit the doctor office once a year. Most of the the time, it's because we don't have time to sit and wait 2-3 hours and I have to save up all my leaves for annual home visit. Second of all, over the counter medicine is cheaper than $15.00 (co-pay).
What trickered me to made an appointment today was yesterday incident. I sit on the couch with my feet up, knees bended. When I got up, I forgot that on of my knees was already injured, I put all the weight on it and I collapsed.
My knee has been hurting for over 3 weeks now. First I thought it's from sitting and pressing my knee against hardwood floor while wrapping TONS of Christmas presents last year. Then, it's been ... over 3 weeks and none of the home remedy works. (Hot pack, Cold pack, Icy-Hot, Message, etc.) From outside, there is nothing wrong but it's annoying that I have to be careful with every stop I take because I don't know when that muscle or bone (or whatever it is) will act up again...
Boss said He had it before and it needed a surgery. I'm so afraid right now :~
--------------------------------------------
YESSS...! All my flights are confirmed yesterday. A flight from Narita to Bangkok was on a waiting list for a day but now it's all confirmed. I even did some research on the plane seat maps (You can check the real-time, available seats of your flight and the layout of seats on ANA Booking system. Just pretend you're buying the ticket, you'll get to pick the seat before they ask for a credit card number and any other info.) and called ANACustomer service to reserve good seats already. (Window/Away from the wing)
I bought my ticket online through LIVE CHAT (Thanks to humanclick.com!) It's better than calling or filling a form online because the CHAT Window is so small, you can minimize and hide it on the task bar. It blinks when the Rep. responses. I can conduct my personal business (searching/booking flights) and work at the same time. (Bust-free, Boss-happy *^_^*)
Thaifly.com is where I always get my ticket from and would like to recommend anybody to check them out for a cheap airfare and great customer service! (No commission here. I'm just a Happy Customer ^_^)
Well, I saved a lot by booking with Thaifly. The same flights on ANA website are being sold for almost 700 dollars more than what I'm paying. Yipppeee....
I will be in Thailand for a few days to finish fixing up my crooked teeth and spend the most of my vacation in Myanmar with my family. It is absolutely deadboring there but I have no choice. I only want to be with grandma!
Hubby is staying home with two hamsters and a case of Kraft Mac & Cheese :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some AP writer wrote this article and it really disturbed me. The following rant is writen in very bad English by a disburbing ESL Thai native. If you think you can handle another side of me (bad mouth) then ... (click here!)
Return back to the nature my FUCKING ASS!!! I'm so FUCKING PISSED OFF right now. How the hell any fucked up ass hole would think the Tsunami Tradgedy has any good benefit to it. Over hundred of thousands died, others suffered...is that a good price for a cleansing of the MOTHER FUCKING beaches?
Economy grows, so what? Who the FUCK doesn't want that? Fucking beaches fill with tourists, buildings and businesses, bring in lots of cash, it's FUCKING BAD that MOTHE RFUCKING NATURE has to take action, wiping off All the lives, all the cash...FUCK YOU HIPPY MOTHER FUCKER!
Below is what the AP writer chick wrote about the incident in THAILAND...
Tsunami Reverts Beaches to Natural State
Fri Jan 7, 3:15 PM ET
By ALISA TANG, Associated Press WriterPATONG BEACH, Thailand - Many believe the tsunami that devastated this tourist hotspot and killed thousands had one positive side: By washing away rampant development, it returned the beaches to nature.
------ And turn you all to ASS (as in four-legged animal) FUCKING HIPPIES!
Greg Ferrando glistened with sweat and sea water as he went for a barefoot jog up the immaculate white sand beach, where the tsunami has wiped away almost all signs of humanity.
------ Still in the mood to jog with joy, huh? You sick puppy cock sucking bastard!
"This whole area was littered with commercialism," said the 43-year-old from Maui, Hawaii. "There were hundreds of beach chairs out here. I prefer the sand."
------ Then go play in the fucking sand box with other 3 years old kids, retard!I PREFER BEACH CHAIRSOVER DEAD BODIES, you cunt face old man!
The beauty of Thai beaches is the stuff of folklore: pristine, clean and untouched. That was 10 or 20 years ago. More recently, they have been swamped by development.------ Go live in an abandoned jungle then, you Brainless Monkey !!!
"Everyone is talking about it. It looks much better now," he said. "This looks a lot more like Hawaii now, where vendors aren't allowed on the beach."
------ Do youself a vafor and stay stricly in Maui where you can hump the fucking palm trees all day all night!
Phanomphon Thammachartniyom, president of the Phuket Professional Guide Association, said when tourists return to Thailand for their second or third visits, he has to recommend new beaches.
"They will complain, 'Why has this place changed so much? I don't like it anymore. I want it to be like it once was,'" Phanomphon said.
------ If they don't like it then FUCK THEM ALL TO HELL!Phanomphon fears politicians and organized crime will steer development in the wrong direction and hopes care will be taken when the area is rebuilt. "Nature has returned nature to us. I want it to be this way forever," he said.
------ Who the FUCK is this PHANOMPHON dude, talking like he just craw out from a retarded donkey ass a minute ago!
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said the tsunami swept away unplanned and possible illegal building, creating an opportunity to regulate growth.
------ FUCK YOU too Prime Minister!
"I have sent a team to collect information on damaged buildings, including hotels, resources and guest houses," he said. "We need the quick restoration of the tourist facilities there, but we also have to establish restrictions for building."
Some on Phi Phi Island agree.------ Some FUCKED UP monkies, you referred to?
"They were just building and building and building. It was too much. You couldn't even walk around," said Moriel Avital, a 24-year-old Israeli who lived on the island for four months.
"It was all gone in one wave — it's telling people not to mess with nature," she said. "Paradise should be paradise and should not become this civilized."
------ MONKIES MONKIES MONKIES (>_<)
Surin Kaewjan, a 44-year-old fruit vendor on Patong Beach, is suffering financially because of the tsunami. But before the huge waves came, the beach was littered and the sand was black and dirty, she said.
------ Dirty !?!?!? FUCKING clean it up then! Where the fuck is the government? Stop spend tax payer fucking money on HOOKERS and create jobs! Hire some dudes to clean up the beach!
"Honestly, I love this nature," she said. "Twenty years ago, it was like this, and full of trees. I haven't seen the beach this white in ages."
------ I HATE YOU ALL !!! Nature loving mother fuckers!
When I was young, I liked to pretend play. My imagination was pretty far. I don't quite remember all of them but so far ... I pretended to be:
- Metro Bus Attendance
- Noodle Shop Owner
- Coffee Shop Owner
- Mother with 3 babies
- A Nurse with Machanic Pen Needle
- A D.J.
- News Anchor
- Abandoned on an isolated island surrounded by crocodiles (seen it on T.V.)
- Stucked in a heavy snow storm (Seen it on T.V.)
- Police / Spy
- ETC.
Well, I don't pretend anymore. I became who I am right now and not quite like I have imagined when I was little. I wonder, if I stick with the dream of being a News Anchor...and keep practicing (pretend play) in front of the mirror everyday, will I make million bucks today?
I remembered I quit pretending to be a News Anchor after a couple of hours and started my own shop the next day. Then it didn't too well so I went back to be a Metro Bus Attendance.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Who did you pretend to be when you were 8 years old?

^menthol is good for you!It was about 65 degree (record HIGH) yesterday which was unusual for Winter in Virginia. Well, hubby was so excited and he opened up all the windows to let nice air in. I guess along with the fresh air was my pollen nemesis! I had bad allergy from the time I woke up and by noon, I had a flu.
Well, I took Day-Quil and went to bed at 2:30pm and woke up again in the evening feeling much better. (Ny-Quil/Day-Quil rock!)
I'm not 100% recovered yet but here I am, in my office trying to get things done. Hubby is at home with a very very bad ear pressure. I guess he's sick too (That's why I decided to come in to work. I don't want to catch the flu back from him :P :) If he really has a flu and still not recovering, tonight I might send him down to sleep on a sofa :P ... just kidding!!!
Hope it will be a great year for everybody! I didn't do anything today, just went to the mall to exchange and return some stuff. McDonald and Dunkin Donut for both lunch and dinner ... and a glass of wine cooler for me and some Bud lite for Pop. Oh, we did exchange a new year kiss ;)
^ GOLF/POP 2K5! FIRST PHOTO OF US THIS YEAR^ NEW YEAR GIFT FOR BOTH OF US FROM BOTH OF US!
I'm selfish because...
I made a donation (a hundred) on behalf of my grandmother to Thai Red Cross today. (and some to American Red Cross) I wish I could be more helpful but this is what have right now at the end of the year. (After Christmas shopping, I'm so broke!) Well, if each person give...any dollar will add up and every dollar helps! A hundred dollars is just a few bottles of alcohol at the New Year party! CUT that out and give it to those who can spend the money for better thing like food and medicine!
But why?I feel bad ...I feel weird ...
I've been thinking abou this whole thing. I want to HELP the victims of this disaster so badly. I put in ten bucks with American Red Cross but I didn't feel good about it. I am SELFISH. I want to help MY PEOPLE first. I want the money to go directly to THAILAND. So, I put the most of it to THAI RED CROSS.I'm selfish. I'm not racist but I can't help but thinking of Thai people first. I can't help everybody so I have to pick those who I am related to first. True, we all live in the same big world but still ... Thailand is my country.
I'm having a headache now. I'm thinking too much.

Tsunami Relief Info+American Red Cross Disaster Relief +Red Cross ThailandEbay Giving WorksAt least 80,000 people have lost their lives in East Africa and South Asia in the aftermath of the earthquake and resulting tsunamis on December 26.
Thousands of people in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and Indonesia are still missing; many others have lost their homes and livelihoods. Sri Lanka and Indonesia suffered the highest number of deaths, but India, East Africa, Seychelles, Maldives, and Thailand were all affected by the tsunami waves, which reached as high as 20 feet. Aid workers and volunteers are focused on stopping the spread of disease and delivering food and drinking water to survivors.
The American Red Cross reports that emergency assessment and first-aid teams were on the ground quickly and are already working with local groups to support relief efforts. Your financial donation will help provide medicine, clothing, food, and shelter for victims of the East Africa and South Asia earthquake and tsunami disaster.

2 guys came in early in the morning (7-8AM) to install new carpet to our second floor. It cost $1200 plus some change and tip. They did pretty good job but I can tell that Pop picked low grade carpet to cut our budget. I think it looks nice (until you step on it) and now we have to move on to the unfinished parquet floor downstair -_-'
We have so much to do with the house and hope to get them all done next year. The plan to upgrade to a single home has been postponed...until further notice!
PS. ACCOUNT OVERACCRUED - Contingency (T_T)
I'm so depressed...same feeling like the 9/11 incident a few years ago. I hope it won't last long...I hate to be dwelling in this feeling
I can't help but checking the news everyday and everyday, the number just keeps increasing. I should stop now...before I go crazy :(
That Saturday night, I had a dream about Tsunami. It's before the news came out. I dreamt that mom and I tried to commit suicide by jumping right into a Tsunami wall. I then realized that I didn't want to die and tried to grab mom's hand. I remembered it was a success and kinda assume that we're still alive (in the dream)
It was very spooky to discover the news in the morning ...
Thanks god my brother who went back to BKK for his school break stayed in BKK at that time. Thanks go mom and grandma are ok in Myanmar and just cancelled their trip to the beach on new year eve.
Thanks god for protecting my family. Now, please look after those who have gone to heaven.

Just when I thought there can't be any bad news to close the year, Jenny just told me this morning that she accepted a position at DISA. She'll be working with me for another 2 weeks. Now, I have nobody left at work who I really enjoy working with. Now...I have to find my way to get out of here too...
Why these terrible news keep coming at the end of this year? I hope...I really hope this is it.

Biggest earthquake in 40 years devastates Asian coasts
A single tsunami wave can be 100 miles long and travel more than 600 mph
Monday, December 27, 2004
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER NEWS SERVICES
The chain reaction that sent enormous, deadly seismic sea waves crashing into the coasts of Asia and Africa yesterday started more than six miles beneath the ocean floor off the tip of the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
The sudden, violent slippage of a 620-mile section along the India and Burma plates caused the most powerful earthquake in 40 years. The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude of the underwater quake at 9.0, the biggest since 1964.
But that was only the beginning.
One hundred fifty-five miles southeast of Banda Aceh, Sumatra, the disturbance generated a powerful series of waves that propagated swiftly to the north and west.
Although they are popularly called "tidal waves," tsunamis have little to do with the ebb and flow of the tides. The waves are generated when geologic forces displace sea water in the ocean basin. The bigger the earthquake, the more the Earth's crust shifts and the more seawater begins to move. They also can be caused by landslides, volcanoes and even meteor impacts.
A tsunami is not a single wave, but a series of traveling ocean waves. With nothing to stop them, these waves can race across the ocean like the crack of a bullwhip, gaining momentum over thousands of miles.
Tsunamis are distinguished from normal coastal surf by their great length and speed. A single wave in a tsunami series might be 100 miles long and race across the ocean at 600 mph. When it approaches a coastline, the wave slows dramatically, but it also rises to great heights because the enormous volume of water piles up in shallow coastal bays.
Some tsunamis appear as a tide that doesn't stop rising, while others are turbulent and savagely chew up the coast. Without instrumentation, so little is known about this tsunami that researchers must wait for eyewitness accounts to determine its characteristics.
The only hint of yesterday's approaching juggernaut was a 2-foot "ripple" on the surface of a very big ocean -- a ripple capable of transforming itself into a destructive 30-foot wall of water.
Sumatra was the first to feel the full force of the wave as it swept ashore just minutes after the quake.
In less than 30 minutes, a wall of water swept across the beach resorts of southern Thailand, sweeping away people sunning on the sand and wreaking havoc on Phuket and other popular resorts. Coastal Myanmar and Malaysia were hammered.
Within three hours, the tsunami had rippled across more than a thousand miles of open ocean to batter the east coast of Sri Lanka and southern India. Within four hours, the great wave was sweeping across the Indian Ocean, inundating the low-lying Maldives and flooding its capital, Male. Eight hours later, still packing a powerful punch, it struck Somalia and other countries on the east coast of Africa -- more than 3,000 miles from the spot where it had begun its ocean journey.
Yesterday's 9.0 earthquake shook unusually far afield, causing buildings to sway hundreds of miles from the epicenter, from Singapore to the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, and in Bangladesh.
Enzo Boschi, the head of Italy's National Geophysics Institute, likened the quake's power to detonating a million atomic bombs the size of those dropped on Japan during World War II, and said the shaking was so powerful it even disturbed the Earth's rotation.
"All the planet is vibrating" from the quake, he told Italian state radio. Other scientists, however, said it was too early to say whether the rotation was affected by the quake.

Tsunami Waves Kill Over 19,930 in Asia
By DILIP GANGULY, Associated Press Writer
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Rescuers scoured Asia's coastlines for survivors of devastating tidal waves that obliterated seaside towns in nine countries, killing more than 19,930 people. Aid poured into the region, but morgues and hospitals struggled to cope with the tragedy.
Hundreds of children were buried in mass graves in India as their grieving parents looked on.
The death toll began climbing sharply after Sunday morning's 9.0-magnitude quake that struck deep beneath the Indian Ocean off the coast of Indonesia, the most powerful temblor in four decades.
The waves sped away from the epicenter at over 500 mph before crashing into the region's shorelines without warning, sweeping people and fishing villages out to sea. Millions were displaced from their homes and thousands were missing.
Officials said the death toll would continue to rise and warned that disease outbreaks were possible.
Sri Lanka said just over 10,000 people were killed along its coastlines, and Tamil rebels said 1,500 people died in its territory, bringing that country's toll to more than 11,500.
Indonesia and India also reported thousands of deaths, and Thailand — a Western tourist hotspot — said hundreds were dead and thousands missing. Deaths were also reported in Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Bangladesh and even in Somalia, 3,000 miles away in Africa.
On the remote Car Nicobar island south of India, Police Chief S.B. Deol told New Delhi Television he had reports "that maybe 3,000 people are dead." If confirmed, that would raise the death toll past 22,900.
In Bandah Aceh, Indonesia, 150 miles from the quake's epicenter, dozens of bloated bodies littered the streets as soldiers and desperate relatives searched for survivors Monday. Some 500 bodies collected by emergency workers lay under plastic tents, rotting in the tropical heat.
"We have ordered 15,000 troops into the field to search for survivors," said military spokesman Edy Sulistiadi. "They are mostly retrieving corpses."
Refugees in nearby Lhokseumawe, many of whom had spent the night sleeping outside on open ground, complained that little or no aid had reached them. The city's hospital said it was running out of medicine.
The Indian state of Tamil Nadu was also hit hard, with thousands of deaths reported. Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalithaa called the scene "an extraordinary calamity of such colossal proportions that the damage has been unprecedented."
Nearby beaches resembled open-air mortuaries as fishermen's bodies washed ashore, and retreating waters left behind others killed inland. In Cuddalore, red-eyed parents held a mass burial for more than 150 children. About half of the nearly 400 who perished in the town were youngsters, leaving townspeople in stunned bereavement.
The earthquake's aftereffects came without warning. Witnesses said sea waters at first retreated far out into the ocean, only to return at a vicious pace. Some regions reported a crashing wall of water 20 feet high.
"The water went back, back, back, so far away, and everyone wondered what it was — a full moon or what? Then we saw the wave come, and we ran," said Katri Seppanen, who was in Thailand, on Phuket island's popular Patong beach.
Sri Lanka and Indonesia had at least a million people each driven from their homes. Warships in Thailand steamed to remote tropical island resorts to search for survivors as air force helicopters in Sri Lanka and India rushed food and medicine to stricken areas.
In Indonesia, villagers near northern Lhokseumawe picked through the debris of their ruined houses amid the smell of decomposing bodies.
One man, Rajali, said his wife and two children were killed and that he couldn't find dry ground to bury them. Islamic tradition demands that the deceased be buried as soon as possible.
"What shall I do?" said the 55-year-old, who like many Indonesians goes by a single name. "I don't know where to bury my wife and children."
In Sri Lanka — an island nation some 1,000 miles west of the epicenter — about 25,000 troops were deployed to crack down on sporadic, small-scale looting and to help in rescue efforts. About 200 inmates took advantage of the chaos, escaping from a prison in coastal Matara.
The U.S. Geological Survey (news - web sites) said the quake's magnitude was 9.0 — the strongest since a 9.2 magnitude temblor in Alaska in 1964, and the fourth-largest in a century. The quake was nearly 6 miles deep and was followed by a half-dozen powerful aftershocks, some in the 7-magnitude range.
The quake occurred where several geological plates push against each other with massive force. The USGS (news - web sites) said a 620-mile section shifted, triggering the sudden displacement of water.
Countries around the world were touched. The United States said three Americans were killed. Denmark said two citizens perished, and New Zealand reported one dead. Also among the missing, injured or dead were nationals of South Korea (news - web sites), Japan, Germany, South Africa, Hong Kong, Britain, Australia, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia, Sweden, Chile, Thai media reported. Sri Lanka said 72 foreign tourists were killed there.
President Bush (news - web sites) expressed his condolences over the "terrible loss of life and suffering." From the Vatican (news - web sites), Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II led appeals for aid for victims, and the 25-nation European Union (news - web sites) promised to quickly deliver $4 million.
Aid agencies and governments around the world began pouring relief supplies into the region on Monday. Japan, China and Russia were among the countries sending teams of experts.
Jasmine Whitbread, international director of the aid group Oxfam, warned that without swift action, more people could die. "The flood waters will have contaminated drinking water and food will be scarce," she said.
In Thailand, Gen. Chaisit Shinawatra, the army chief, said the United States has offered to send troops stationed in Japan's Okinawa island to assist. Thailand was considering the offer.
Tsunamis as large as Sunday's happen only a few times a century. A tsunami is a series of traveling ocean waves generated by geological disturbances near the ocean floor. With nothing to stop them, the waves can race across the ocean like the crack of a bullwhip, gaining momentum over thousands of miles.
Some tsunamis appear as a tide that doesn't stop rising, while others are turbulent and savagely chew up the coast.
An international tsunami warning system was started in 1965, after the Alaska quake, designed to advise coastal communities of a potentially killer wave.
Member states include all the major Pacific rim nations in North America, Asia and South America. But because tsunamis are rare in the Indian Ocean, India and Sri Lanka are not part of the system. Scientists said the death toll would have been reduced if they had been.
My sincere condolences to the my people of Thailand and other countries.

We went to Pop's family (less than 10 minutes away) today for a traditional gift exchange & family gathering (always plenty of good food there). Pop has 3 brothers, one just moved out and two still live there.
This year we spent way too much on gifts for everybody but only get a few back. Not everybody care to exchange but it's ok. We were there to give and not expecting anything back in the first place. It's like this last year and a year before anyway.
Beside gifts we brought over (over 20 boxes/bags), we gave $300.00 in cash. His mom mentioned we gave more and more every year which we didn't realize. Well, it's because we're doing better (I got a raise) so we are able to give more.
Pop got another wireless controler for xbox from Pond and the new xbox "Fatal Frame" videogame from Greg. Mommy gave us a nice "Bed-in-a-bag" set. I got a kimono pajama, a hand painted vase and a size 5 slipper (I'm wearing 8 1/2) from her. Pond gave me a nice sweater.
Best gift I have received this year are 1.)DDR Mat (which I just broke it, have to go exchange tomorrow) and 2.) Fendi bagfrom my honey bunny, POPPY :)
Beside gift exchange, we enjoy good food his mom made for us. She's such a great cook and she loves to cook for everybody. Everytime when we go overthere, we always have some leftover to take home. I love it!
Since Friday, we've been playing videogames everynight, clean up a little bit during the day and eat TONS of good food. (We will go back to Atkin Induction phase starting next year) We have a very good Year End Holidays season this year and hope it will only get better and better! Joy...to the world everyone!
We opened the rest of our presents today since tomorrow we have to go hangout at his parent's house all day. I love all my gifts received today so far. Well, let me finalize my gift list for this year:
From Pop:
Yoga Mat, Foot Spa, DDR Mat, Fendi zucchino handbag
From Norman:
Wireless XBOX controler
From the Khos:
Snowman set
--------------------------------------------------
I love the DDR Mat, it's impossible to play with a controler and this Fifty dollars mat is just perfect! I've been dancing to the game for almost 2 hours before one of the buttons broke :( Bummy! We have to go back to EB Toys for an exchange on Sunday. Well, it was a good workout though :)
Now Pop is playing the new STARS WAR game he got for his gamescube. Today, we plan to relax and enjoy our timesoff together. We ordered a big delivery (40 dollars) from a local Greek restaurant (Gyro, Pizza, Pasta, Wings, Calamari, Garlic bread, Salad and Soda)
Pop finished his BATGIRL fill-in issue last night and Mr. Airbourne just came to pick it up this morning. Once again, he is a freeman (well, for a few hours only, then he has to jump back to finish off a new chapter of BLANK for TOKYOPOP).
I'm heading back to work on Monday. FUDGE (>_<) I'm working and working and working every freakin' day and I don't even get an increase or a big bonus. Well, well, I shouldn't bitch since it's good enough to HAVE a job after all :) Plus, I choose not to take any days off now so I can save up my Annual Leaves and use all of them (15 days of leaves) to go back home (Thailand) in March 2005. Grandma is waiting for me :) I love my grandma. I love my mom.
HO HO HO...
For the past week, most people either wear Red, Green or Christmas Prints shirts or sweaters. Some wear Holidays jewelry and some...paint their nails in Christmas theme.
Since I haven't got a chance to do laundry at all fot he past few weeks and most of my winter clothes are still packed in a luggage (yeah yeah...), I only have one or two Red shirts to wear. (And I have worn them :P)
Today I wear green socks and carry a red bag. I hope this help blending in with the others here at work ;)
Since it's getting so close to Christmas, I've been sitting on the hard floor wrapping presents all night long for a few nights straight. I started to feel the pain in my right knee.
OMG!
3 more days at work and 4 more days until Christmas! I'm not doing too well this year in term of time and budget management.
I hope I'm done with Christmas shopping and I hope I will have enough time to finish up some work before the quarter ends :(
PS. Got a cute card from punniepunch today. Thanks kaa~ chu chu~ (จ๊วบบบบส์)
Please help!
I'm addicted to shopping and it's getting worse and worse toward the end of the year. I think I might have to sell my hamster's liver on eBay to get more money to keep shopping
...is it over? Damn Damn Damn I over spent again this year. I always go way over the budget (amount shown on bonus check) every end of the year with Christmas shopping. Not to mention I arleady *LOVE* to shop and have been shopped all year round. When it's time to shop w/o guilt (Holidays shopping), I go craaaaaazy! I have to STOP NOW! NO MORE BUYING !!!
So far, I spent way over 1,000 dollars (close to 2K) on small gifts and max out one credit card. I didn't plan carefully so I kept buying and buying just to make sure all my family and friends will get what they like. I ended up buying too much and I will have stuff left over again. (Then I have to use them or keep them for next year)
Pop is always busy and he usually buy less (but cost more). He will buy costly stuff (like Videogame Sytem, DVD player, all the electronic gadgets) Between two of us, the damage from Holidays shopping usually put us to live off a piece of bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner from January through April to make up for the missing cash in our bank account!
I always shop online and I refuse to go to the mall in late December by myself Holidays Shoppers are crazy! (That's why I lock myself in the house and shop via a notebook computer instead. I'm carzier than those people and being out in public may cause injury) I don't want to go to Jail resulting from killing someone right before Christmas or the other way around (get killed)
Thanks you all for sending me your address. I promise I'll knock on your doors one day after my retirement (as if you're still there) but for now, I'll just send you all Holiday greeting cards ;)
There are noises everywhere everyday. The only time when you won't hear anything is when you rest, when you sleep to be exact.
My cubicle is very noisy in winter. The cooling fan from my little space heater makes very loud noise, which forcing me to turn up the radio so I can listen (hear) to my Holidays Music station. Just a moment ago, my radio died and the space heater shut itself off (temptature setting). Guess what can I hear now...
1. Coworkers talking on the phone
2. Coworkers talking to each other
3. Tic-Tac, the typing noise (from keyboard)
4. Phone rings
5. The fan from central air condition
We should have a "WORLD SILENT DAY". Just for a minute at the exact same time, same moment when nobody talk, nobody move, just shut up and listen! I wonder what will we hear.
Ok, I gotta go fix my radio now, it's getting too quiet in here :(
I had lunch at KC Cafe today, it was Wanda's Luncheon (Farewell Party). KC is a cafe on the rooftop of the Kennedy Center. Food there is pretty good but DON'T TOUCH the salad bar. It's good...but it cost $10.00/lb. (the ceramic plate itself is already heavy! Yikes!) And guess what I had for lunch there, Yep, a plate of SALAD :l
Photo here is a beautiful christmas tree inside the cafe.

This is our Frist Christmas gift #2 from Norman. He already told Pop "NOT" to open the package but Pop forgot and opened it up anyway. The gift is AWESOME and we just LOVVVE IT! I can't take photo yet because we're planning to wrap it back and pretend like NOTHING HAPPEN :P :)

No, I'm not a boss and I don't think I can be one. For god sake, I can't even get my husband straight and my two hamsters are totally out of control. I don't have that "RESPECT MY AUTHORITHA!" aura.
Well, I just wanted to talk about my "BOSSes" (In USA only. I worked in Japan too but will save that for later). Since I haven't been to many places yet, I only have a few.
1. Strayer University:
1.1) Peggy
was my (first) boss here at the library. I was a part-timer there while in school. I've been from Peggy from Sophomore until I gradauted. I think of her as my own mother and she said I'm her "adopted" daugher :) Right now Peggy retired and stayed at home (shortly after I left my job there) and we haven't seen each other for almost two years! Shame on me, she's only an hour or so away but I just couldn't seem to find time to go visit her yet.
1.2) Linda
was my (second) boss at Strayer. I took a full-time position in the Student Services department and left the library. Linda was cool, hard working and I adored her. Though we don't have that special connection like Peggy and I do.
2. Sitel Corporation
Well, since I hate it there, I had no idea who was who and I couldn't remember any of them now. It's a busy call center supporting 3COM Handhelds. They worked me to hell and I fell my class. I asked for a day off before my final exam and my then boss refused to negociate. I took a day off to study anyway and never returned to Sitel again.
3. Steve
was my (first) boss at the Navy Medicine. He's funny, he's smart and he's so so so nice. He was partially the reason I'm looking forward to go to work everyday (beside the paycheck). Too bad Steve got a better job and quit almost two years ago. I cried. I felt like I'd lost something very special.
3. Wanda
Well, it's that time of the year when people give and receive and exchange stuff. My brain has been occupied with lots of work this year and I still don't have time to come up with a good Wish list yet. Well, here's my *temporary* wish list:
Christmas Wish List (in no particular order):
1. Mei Sheng, Gao Gao and Bai Yun (The Panda Family)
2. 1 year Molly Maid Service
3. big hottub
4. expensive handbag
5. luggage set
6. ski vacation
7. white christmas
8. new house
9. 100 millions dollars
10. easy to deliver, easy to raise... baby! (human baby, that is. my baby to be specific.)
Fine Print:This wish of mine may be changed without further notice
When I was a kid, I owned this dog named "HONEY". In order to make the dog tame and loyal to you, there was this ONE TRICK my grandma told me and I had been done to Honey for a long time.
I am so sure if this is an inter racial belief or it's just a THAI thing. Well, the trick was to mix SPIT with its food.
Ah...Ye..ah! your SPIT works like some sort of love potion. It put spell on the dog and make it falls in love with you for the rest of its life. Since I wasn't the one who give Honey food (grandma did), I could only put the SPELL in her special treat A.K.A. the Grilled Meatball. Honey loved grilled meatball and I loved to buy it for her as long as I got to put it in my mouth or chew it first. YEP, that's how I mixed my spit with Honey's food, HA HA HA...Well, Honey ran away while I was in Japan. I was so sad. She probably discovered what I've done to her grilled meatballs and got mad.
It's pretty nasty I agree and I only did it because I was a kid and I believed anything grandma said. Well, supposedly, that little thing still live in me. I guess by instinct, sometime I put nuts in my mouth (Almond! Pitachio! Nothing else! ) first, before I give them to my hamsters thinking they will be tame and loyal to me.

No, I never spit in Pop's food.
